The following descriptions are taken from a history of Mesopotamia written in the third century BC by Berossus, a Babylonian priest whose work survives only in fragments recorded by later Greek historians.

"At Babylon there was (in these times) a great resort of people of various nations, who inhabited Chaldaea, and lived in a lawless manner like the beasts of the field. In the first year there appeared, from that part of the Erythraean sea which borders upon Babylonia, an animal destitute of reason [sic], by name Oannes, whose whole body (according to the account of Apollodorus) was that of a fish, that under the fish's head he had another head, with feet also below, similar to those of a man, subjoined to the fish's tail. His voice too, and language, was articulated and human, and a representation of him is preserved even to this day.
This Being was accustomed to pass the day among men; but took no food at that season; and he gave them an insight into letters and sciences, and arts of every kind. He taught them to construct cities, to found temples, to compile laws, and explained to them the principles of geometrical knowledge. He made them distinguish the seeds of the earth, and shewed them how to collect the fruits; in short, he instructed them in everything which could tend to soften manners and humanize their lives. From that time, nothing material has been added by way of improvement to his instructions. And when the sun had set, this Being Oannes, retired again into the sea, and passed the night in the deep; for he was amphibious. After this there appeared other animals like Oannes."

Other image of the Fish Man

Oannes was called Lord of the Waves, by the Babylonians, and was said to be amphibious, that is having the torso and head of a man with his bottom half resembling that of a fish, complete with scales. Some texts suggest he lived at the bottom of the Apsu or Abyss in a fresh water.

In the ancient legends of the Sumerians and Babylonians about the god Enki, who was the god who warned mankind about the Deluge so that the Ark could be constructed, Enki was said to sleep in a freshwater receptacle or chamber shaped like the Ark, called the Abzu.
Abzu (Absu) - 1. the Abzu as Enki's shrine / temple in Eridu; 2. the Abzu as a subterranean structure; 3. the Abzu as a mythical place where the life influencing powers reside and where their results, as well as the means to influence their effects, originate; 4. the Abzu described as incomprehensible, unfathomable, secret.

It has also been said that he was the same entity as Enki or Ea. Ea was the later Akkadian name for Enki, the chief god of the Sumerian city of Eridu. Ea was called the "fish of heaven" and Oannes, the Greek form of Ea, was half man, half fish and taught mankind writing and math. He is given credit by the Sumerians for giving civilization to man. The Philistines called him Dagon, a name many Bible readers will recall.

Dagon is mentioned in Bible at least in eight places:

1. Book of Joshua 19:27;

2. Book of Judges 16:23;

3. Book of 1 Samuel 5:2, 5:3, 5:4, 5:5, 5:7;

4. Book of 1 Chronicles 10:10.

The worship of Dagon, as Oannes, was the origin of the Pope's mitre, or fish-cap. Dagon was connected with the worship of Janus, who was sometimes depicted wearing the same mitre.

Similar drawings can be found among the famous images on stones of Ica (Peru), which, as are asserted by some authors, were created many thousand years ago. It is possible to find many pages about these images, for example http://www.labyrinthina.com/ica.htm

In this carving on a stone from Ica the man observing stars through a tube (telescope?) is represented and on his head the cap-mitre is dressed, as  the Pope's mitre. It is a head of Oannes - symbol of a fish.

This being has many names at the different peoples: Oannes, Ea, Enki, Dagon,... For example, the very interesting information on these being can be read in the book of Robert Temple - "The Sirius Mystery". He writes about a tribe of Dogon living in Africa and surprising well informed on the Sirius star system. They assert that them have visited (or were brought on the Earth) of being - amphibians.

In Mali, West Africa, lives a tribe of people called the Dogon http://www.crystalinks.com/dogon.html. The Dogon (pronounced doe-gon) people live in the cliff country around the bend of the Niger River. They are believed to be of Egyptian descent.
The Dogon tells the legend of the Nommos, awful-looking beings. The Nommos, who could live on land but dwelled mostly in the sea, were part fish, like merfolk (mermaids and mermen). There are references in the oral traditions, drawings and cuneiform tablets of the Dogons, to human looking beings who have feet but who are portrayed as having a large fish skin running down their bodies. The Dogon depict them in pictures as being akin to mer-folk, combining the scaly lower body and tail of a fish with a vaguely humanoid chest and head.
The Nommos were more fishlike than human, and had to live in water. They were saviors and spiritual guardians. He gave all his life principles to human beings and the Nommos are also called Masters of the Water, the Watchers, and the Teachers.
The very assonant name and the sense of myths is identical ancient Babylonian.

About the fish-people is written and in the "Popol Vuh" - The Mayan (Quiche) book of the dawn of life -
"And on the fifth day they reappeared. They were seen in the water by the people. The two of them looked like person fish..."
(Note: The term used here is winaq [uinac] kar, literally "person fish", identified by some interpreters as "catfish".)
According to "Popol Vuh", they were liberators of the people, they have destroyed evil and have left in the sky.

Now we shall return to image of a head of fish from the first part of this article.

Now I add a part of earlier wiped lines of the full image. (But also this is not yet all, the full image is much more.) Now look at the image of a head of Oannes received from ancient cryptogram. He is portrayed in a profile. The head of fish "is dressed" on his head or is a part of his head. This image is received by the first method.

Further I shall use the image of a head of Oannes received by the second method. It allows to see the greater number of small-sized details of the image.

Here it is possible to pay attention to a line on a nose. I have cut off their continuation, so it was easier for you to understand this image. In full figure these lines proceed and form any infundibular object. It is possible to think, that it can be, for example, a respiratory device, which puts on a nose and is latched on cheekbones. The design is certainly convenient.
And once again I remind you, that from cryptogram I receive only lines of the image, and colors and other effects I add itself, as I understand it. Trying to make a more expressive and understandable image.

As I have shown in the first part of this article, the head of fish is a topographical map of the North American continent. And at the same time, it is a part of a head of Oannes. Comparing these facts possible to expect, that Oannes or race of these beings are connected with the American continent. Probably they lived on the American continent? If so, then can be there any reliquiae were kept? For example, bones, skulls,...
Yes, were kept! The similar skulls were kept and were found! And exactly on the American continent!

As you can see, they coincide remarkably good.
Quite a few similar skulls have been found. The following information is taken on page http://www.watsonsupply.com/charley/skulls/skulls.htm
It was found in South America and is estimated to be tens of thousands of years old. Apart from its obvious abnormalities, it also exhibits characteristics of both Neanderthal and human skulls – impossible in itself, according to anthropology texts, since Neanderthals did not exist in South America.

Three different copies here are shown only. The first thing that attracts attention is the size and shape of the cranium in all the specimens.

It is possible to assume that they represented an example of binding of the head, well known to be in fashion in ancient Nubia, Egypt, Australia and China and other cultures. Yes, this method it is possible to change the shape of a skull, but it is impossible to change its capacity. The largest skull documented in the medical literature had the cranial capacity of 1980 cm³, however, the shape of the skull was normal.

The deliberate modification of the human body is a widespread cultural phenomenon. These modifications can be divided into two main types: the first are primarily associated with ritual and the second with mere fashion. Intentional or artificial cranial deformation can be classed among the second type of modifications. But how far back in time does this practice go? Present evidence suggests that this type of behaviour has a great antiquity. On the found exemplars it is possible to track this practice on 10 - 20 thousands of years back.

And whom they imitated, on whom did they want to be similar? The answer is usual for a human nature. They wanted to be similar to those who were stronger, more cleverer and that sort of thing. But on whom? Who was a model for imitation?

The considered here the cone-shaped types of skull are not found amongst the usual skull-binding samples.
The enormity of the cranial vault is obvious from all three pictures. By interpolation, we can estimate the minimum cranial capacity at 2200 cm³, but the value can be as high as 2500 cm³. The shape of the skull may be a biological response--a survival of the species mechanism--to increase the brain mass without the danger of relegating the species to extinction and keeping a viable biological reproduction intact.

Since the late Neanderthals and early modern humans (Cro-Magnon) had larger cranial capacities (both roughly 1600 cm³ to 1750 cm³) than modern humans (av. 1450 cm³).

(sudden at that -- the specimens of modern humans after about 10500 BCE have smaller craniums)
is a puzzling matter...

Using the data, adduced in this article, it is possible to make such table.

Interesting that this consequent decrease of the cranial capacities is good correspond and with time scale.

Or we go not there... Or us shepherd not there...

According to the Popol Vuh, when the gods have created the first people,

"They understood everything perfectly, they sighted the four sides, the four corners in the sky, on the earth,..."

Seeing this, the gods have said.

"What should we do with them now?... Yet they'll become as great as gods,...
And when they changed the nature of their works, their designs,...
And such was the loss of the means of understanding, along with the means of knowing everything,..."

The same story can be read and in the Bible (Genesis, 3:22)

"And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,..."
